Maria Angelica “Mariel” de Leon
One of the official candidates Binibining Pilipinas 2013 tilt is already generating a buzz of late, thanks largely to her showbiz family predecessors.
Maria Angelica “MARIEL” DE LEON, a 19-year-old 5’8” tall stunner with angelic face, is the daughter of award winning actors Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong.
De Leon’s candidacy has the blessing of her veteran actor father, who, in a recent interview, intimated that he gave her the green light to pursue a modeling career following her graduation from culinary school.
“Si Mariel, [sa] New Zealand nag-aral. Tumira siya sa kapatid niya, ’yung panganay ko, sa New Zealand. [Afterwards] sabi niya, ‘I want to be a model! [So I said,] Go!”
The young lady has since modeled and appeared in print ads. “’Yung humahawak kay Mariel is my sister Toni,” the De Leon patriarch noted.
He also went on to share that it was during this modeling stint that his daughter was tapped to join the prestigious beauty tilt.
Declaring he had no agitations about it, he said, “May laban naman yata, eh. Hindi ko naman pinigilan. Ang galing, eh!”
However, the actor might have a bit of trepidation attending pageant night. “Manonood ako pero… wow, baka hindi ko kayanin!”
According to reports, Mariel de Leon was among the last to apply during the pageant’s second screening day held on Jan. 22.
